@iutgfhk that’s a misunderstanding. Chinese do say “thank you”. They just don’t say it for very trivial things such as you passing them a plate at the table. If a Chinese in China say “thank you” according to the rules of when to say “thank you” in the west, then they will be seen as very strange and fake. But no one will dislike them for something that trivial b/c Chinese people are not like that.

I agree with you on everything except on how nice/friendly the chinese people are. People are usually not that nice.As a culture, the chinese are just not polite. There is no chivalry,’thank you s’, ‘how are you’. However, being a foreigner you do get special treatment. The social hierarchy in china ranks from beijing people, city/middle class, to the lowest: those from the village. However, if you are white/foreign, you are definitely first on that ladder.
